Default 92 Town and Country - Check Engine Light

Hi. I recently purchased a 1992 Town And Country which has digital gauges. The gauge cluster was dead, and I replaced it with a cluster I got from a salvage yard. Everything seems okay, except for this: the check engine light is on. Not just when the van is running, or when the key is in the ignition. It is on non-stop, even when the van is off and parked and the key is not in. Any ideas on what might cause this? Thanks.

As an additional note, I tried checking for engine error codes with the check engine light and turning the ignition key on-off-on-off-on, but since the check engine light seems to be stuck on, it can't blink any error codes (if there are any). Additional, the "maintenance required" light in the information center above the gauge cluster is NOT on, just the check engine light in the gauge cluster.

Followup:

Problem solved. Defective replacement gauges!

However, here's what I did: the gauges come in two parts - a rear circuit board that connects to the wire harness and has all of the electrical components, and a front circuit board that has a printed circuit and the gauges themselves. I tried swapping the front of the new set with the rear of the old, and found that the rear board for my old gauges was dead, so I hooked the front board from the old set to the rear board from the new set, and viola!

So now I have a complete working gauge set. The check engine light is no longer stuck on, and I can actually check for engine error codes now.

You might check the capicators on the non-working board. Sometimes they are defective (typically the capicator can is swollen). You can replace them and the board might work again. Don't know about fixing dead guages other than the cracked solder joint on the board.
Glad you got it fixed! More money saved by a DIY-er.
