Car Cameras - Dash Cams
#11
I bought one just after Christmas, its now surplus because I bought a different one for the QuadCop, and a different and much bigger Quad. I can build and engineered quick disconnect to mount on the auto-dim mirror and convert 12V DC into 5V DC to power the camera on the move. My question is did you look for and find a 12V [IGN-on] supply in the mirror or did you just run a USB line round the lining ? Its a pity with the excellent interaction between forums and the manufacturer that they have not made a bespoke quick disconnect with a power supply.
N E 1 else know if there is a 12V supply in the auto-dim mirror ?

I run a USB line round the lining. However, I understand from DashCamTalk that the interior lights usually use a permanent pos with a switched neg so some take the 12v supply from that source and then use one of these to step down to 5v. 1Meter DC 12V-24V to 5V 3A Rigth Angled 90 Degree Mini USB Power Converter Cable | eBay
These leads have the advantage of being supplied with a right angle USB plug.
Edit: I should mention that I already bought 2 of those leads ( I have a camera in the back window too) but I haven't got round to installing them yet. Sometimes the camera doesn't power up properly because the Voyager seems to cut power to the cigarette lighter supply while starting the engine. The interior lights may not be affected by this, I haven't checked.

Thanks for that AlanC, I changed all [11] my festoons and map-lights about a year ago [post in this forum] the
were a bit of a Yorkshire-fettle with a resolder & filed down two pack araldite bodge to make them fit properly and look good. I'm sure however that the self dimming map & festoons never ever power-flicker or switch off, but I will check.
Best of luck M8.
