Default drive in 1st gear only no or occasional reverse

Hello

Have a 2003 Chrysler T&C LX 3.8L engine

The van drives in the L position (1st gear?). It occasionally will shift into reverse.

I hooked it up to a scanner and saw that in park it was in neutral. It would only initiate Neutral 1st and reverse

In reverse it makes a noisy sound almost like its attempting to shift but then backs off..

I have a few codes listed below:

P0218
P0732
P0734
P0740
P0750
P0944
P1790

I also have engine codes also

P0171
P0700 (transmission)
P0456

And on obd2 I get P0732A

What items should I check? Would this require a new transmission? I hope not a new trans. Please help.

First question your going to get asked is, has it got enough fluid. Then have you changed the fluid at any time. Had the pan off. Cleaned the filter inside.

Well it seems I omitted that detail by accident.

As for the pan being off its not my car to do so on. So ni I have not done so. Fluid is clean and no metal shavings or such content at least on the dipstick end

In all honesty I'm looking to buy this car and wanted to see if its worth it or not. I'll be doing most repairs myself except a transmission drop and swap (with used)

**I guess I should ask is...

Is this a mechanical issue or electrical? If mechanical is what is the probability of it needing a transmission rebuild vs a less costly repair/maintenance job?

Third write as I'm getting cut off continually per crap BT Broadband. Is fluid like pea soup with material not metal in it.

There is one fault relating to burnt wires near exhaust pipework. Check electrical connections around box are tight.

I do but believe I have seen that ever before.

The transmission fluid smells like it should and its a translucent red color with its usual purple hue.

No partocals and no other contamination that I noticed. No foamy appearance as well

Then your onto relays and valves attached followed by modules.
Check for as same as you fault in the search box.
Think I would have it fixed before I bought it.

I will have to make another trip for that. I have read about that. Is this on passenger side? Or near the fuse box?
