Default DTC 0402 EGR excessive - Grand Voyager 2.8 CRD 2007

EGR code P 0402 is lighting up repeatedly, even after clearing with ODBII scanner. No sign of any degraded performance. Idle is normal. Fuel consumption doe seem a bit high at 21 MPG (UK) with light throttle, light traffic driving around town. Running with vacuum pipe from solenoid to EGR valve disconnected and blocked makes no difference. Suspect sensors not valve sealing although not yet properly tested. Any advice on any DIY tests with proper Chrysler service diagnostic equipment to isolate cause of DTC would be appreciated. Nearest dealer is quite far away.

Mpg will drop like a lead ballon with this cold dense air! But power will be up. I need to get the EGR valve of my van and give it a good clean. Not sure what other tests you can do! I would run some BG244 in the ststem

The EGR system on 2.8's also has a throttle valve which closes of the air intake to force more air from the exhaust. This is on the front of the engine with the egr valve on the rear.

Testing can be done by measuring and applying vacuum to the valves and checking for correct operation also measure the vacumm and electrical signals on/from the solenoids.

Richard
