Default Engine swap question

I need to replace the engine on 2006 Town & Country, 3,8. Is there a way to know what the donor vehicle should be- does it for example have to be exact same year to fit ? Can it be from Dodge Caravan ? Or can I know it by the VIN number ?

Yes gone are the good old days of buying electrical parts and just fitting them. Now you've got to ask the vehicles permission to fit them by knocking at the door of the ECU. So we are now into interrogating the ECU via a plugin, if you have the equipment that is. Some electronic parts learn by themselves though. So the worse scenario is changing electronic parts and it refusing to start.

Hi, you can search for an engine from the T&C or Caravan etc as they are all the same, however, stick to years 2001 through 2007. 2008 and later had slight modifications made which dropped both BHP and Torque however combined with the new 6sp transmission improved overall performance and economy so I'd stay clear of these because you may run into engine management compatibility issues.
