Default Grand Voyager 2.5crd gearbox knock

Hello Guys and Girls i'm only a newbie so be gentle. Just bought a 03 grand voyager 2.5 crd limited xs and ive just noticed a knocking coming from the gearbox. Its less noticeable when i press the clutch although its still there. A mechanically minded friend has come up with the idea the diff has gone. I'm clueless please help as i dont want to get rid of such a lovely car. Thanks in advance

When I got mines, a rattle/knocking at the front was caused by the anti roll bar D bushes.

Subsequent rattles/knocks have been solved with drop links and trackrod ends.

I'm thinking as its a front wheel drive theres no diff?

hi scotsman yeah i thought that too i thought diffs where only on rear wheel drives obviously my friend is wrong ha ha. It sounds like a thrust bearing has gone (previous experience of one going) but like i said i dont know much about cars. it rattles when just idling so i'm still at a loss. Cheers for the reply tho

Hi GsiDaz,
Scotsman4th sums up the rattling proplems on my 03 LTD that I've just sorted, last weekend.
Extra's that I can think off, especially the front engine mount that I have on order, engine and Gearbox mounts. Front engine one, no rattle, but easily seen and shagged on mine. Others not so easily viewed.
Dual Mass Flywheels knock, on takeup especially. Does your engine have one, does mine, hope not, but there is normal flywheels with clutches available to remove it.
Goggs.
