Default Grand Voyager Key Dance..

Hi again,

OK, after a bit of research i've discovered how to do the key dance which gives the engine fault code.

ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON

However, it won't work

Has anyone got any tips or advice how to achieve a correct key dance?

I am turning from the complete OFF position to the first click, i.e. when the odometer only comes on?? Is that correct or do I need to turn until all the lights come on (p.s. ive done that as well but it doesn't work either..)

The dance is the timing [knack] between moves in milliseconds between the OFF and ON position. Brain in gear, patience, it works in milliseconds, practice. NOTE that the OFF is one clockwise from the LOCK position and the LOCK position is the only position from which you can withdraw or insert the key into the barrel.

That was great advice QinteQ, I got it second time..!

It's flashing P1130 after successfully doing the Key Dance...

When I first did it, there were a few other codes that showed after P1130, but I hadnt taken a pen, so when I went back with a pen and did it again only P1130 flashed...

P1130 keeps flashing until I drop the key back to 'OFF' position when it then says 'Done'.

The code flashing .. . for example if you had 3 different codes P0401 + P1130 + P0402 and the :

- P0401 flashed 4 times, the ;
- P1130 flashed 2 times, and the ;
- P0402 flashed 8 times

That's the number of separate ' manufacturer specific code 'recorded incidents', ie. 8 times you had a 402 but only twice you had an 1130, P1130 to P1165 are all oxygen sensor issues.

Depending on the age of your car the P1130 is Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Variance (Bank 1, Sensor 1) on the above reliable site. I've no idea what your car is, its not readily viewable to the group in your bottom tag line.

Ahh, apologies QinteQ, I will add my vehicle to the bottom line..

It's a 55 plate 2.8 Limited XS. It has 70K miles on the clock.

I do have extensive service history that I could check back through.

So, if I understand you correctly, the codes could merely be the historical issues the car has had?

But we do still have the orange engine light on...

Might try resetting the codes by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 2 minutes then watching for the light to return and reading the "virgin" code.

P1130 on a diesel is fuel rail pressure. It's not unusual to find a stored but not active one given the penchant these have for sucking in air instead of fuel.

I had the same problem clearing "service due" in the LCD window of my S-type Jag. You had to do a fancy fandango using reset and a stalk to clear it. The manuf. instructions were not quite right in terms of timing, a bit like here.

Thanks everyone. ;-)

Came in from work tonight and my wife greeted me with the news that the engine light had now gone off...

Should I be happy or cautious? If there had been air in the fuel could it have blown out?

Somehow I think it will be back. If its ok for a day or so its not air in fuel. Sensor on way out highly possible.
