Default Help !Gears stuck

Help!!, I have a 2005 Grand Voyager 2.8 CRD auto ,with 35k mileage. Warranty has just expired Jan 2008. Ive had it from new, with no probs. The engine check light came on last month and as a result the gears are not changing and seem to have got stuck in 2nd everytime i drive. However on occassional random starts it drives as normal then gets stuck in 2nd. Ive shown it to Chrysler, who have reset the codes 3 timesand this time said it was a £11 relay, after spending £200 on their labour costs , drove it out of the garage and had the same problem, light came on ,gears stuck in 2nd.Theyve now suggested it may require a new wireloom, this could cost thousands!! Its all guess work.

I tried the key dance and had a code of P1685 show up, which icant understand, as i have the original key . can anyone help please?????????

Default RE: Help !Gears stuck

Can't say I know what code that is (i'm sure someone else should have the list handy), but the situation you describe (stuck in 2nd gear) is called limp mode. If there is a problem sensed with the transmission, it locks into 2nd gear so you can get it to a shop to be serviced without hopefully damaging the transmission. The fact that it randomly goes in and out does point to a possible wiring problem. Any other symptoms to help narrow it down? Mine displayed wild speedometer behavior, and while I replaced the speed sensors, to no avail, it was found to be a cracked wire to the speed sensor. Hope this helps.
