Default Hit a pothole, noise like a hammer

Hi
Hope that I can get an idea here of what's happened here.
53 plate Chrysler Grand Voyager.
I was driving (around 25mph) from home this morning and hit a big pothole that has formed this year on a lane near me. Almost immediatly there was a noise like a hammer being banged on the drivers side above the wheel but sounding like it was coming from under the bonnet rather than around the wheel area and gradually a squeaking noise appeared which was definitly there when the car was rocked and when driving over bumps.
Needless to say drove carefully home and so on to here to see if anyone has any ideas what it may be and how easy it would be to repair.
Many thanks in advance
Richard

Try anti-roll bar rubbers first. Their attached below engine on cross member. Tighten in place when wheels on road.

I think I'd take off the wheel and look at the suspension components. It will soon be obvious if anything is broken. However, I'd also take a look at the coil spring and make sure it hasn't broken a coil. Another area I would check is the engine mountings. These can be found either side just below the strut mounting points. Have a friend to grab the engine and give it a good shake. There should be some movement in these but not too much.

Thanks for your input, it was all pretty knackered, strut mount broken through at the top, wishbone fractures and anti roll bar link broken, 2 trips to the garage and cost £540.

If you record the detail of such events, time, date, location and support it with photographs of the pothole, you should be able to claim some compensation from the local authority.

Hi
It must have been one hell of a 'pot hole' to do that damage
