Default How to remove gearbox - 2.5L CRD 2002

Hi - this is my first post, so be gentle! I have the oil leak between engine and gearbox. I would like to replace the 3 crankshaft seals myself. I have never removed a gearbox from a front wheel drive vehicle (I have done a few 4x4 where it seems to be much simpler). I have looked for instructions but have not been able to find any step by step details. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance - David

The engine and tranny need to be dropped, you need a vehicle hoist to raise it high enough safely. I'm not sure about just dropping the tranny, but you are still going to have to raise the vehicle high enough to clear the tranny.

It's not that much different to any other front wheel drive box. If you support the engine the box can be taken out on it's own. Rear gearbox mounts is the hardest part I suppose.

Thank you for your replies, they are greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I am in Spain and the Chrysler dealer here is a "Bandido" and I do not trust him, this is why I need to do it myself. The logistics of supporting the engine and dropping the transmission out is not a problem for me. The problem is that I have never done this on a transverse engine / gearbox before. I really could do with step by step instructions to see what comes off and it what order. i.e. how to disconnect drive shafts etc. What needs to come off and what does not. Instructions would save me a lot of time and frustration.

Does anyone know if a step by step guide exists?

Thank you - David
