ok now seeing that the 96 early does not have a prindle switch. can the later trans with the prindle switch be made to work on the early trans? I can find the 97 and newer in the bone yard. but not the early ones. thanks for all the help

1996 is a very strange year. the very first production had the old style PRNDL and neutral safety switches. VERY hard to find replacement only like a 1 month run. if you have the single PRNDL connector, you can use any year thru 2007 (but there are some suttle differences that you'd need to address). Let me know what you have for a trans switches (post a pic if you want to clarify) and then let me know what you find for a replacement and I'll tell you what you need to do to make it work. FYI I installed a 2005 stratus 2.7 trans into a 1999 caravan 3.3 and it worked and fit perfectly just a couple minor changes were needed.

PM me on price and turn around time on a trans... I have a lot in stock rebuilt and used with very low miles.

Pray really hard every night, and with the luck of God, you just might find one. You just reaffirmed EXACTLY what I said.

I've only had one come thru my shop for a rebuild. I was going to just toss in a trans I already had done, but I ended up having to do the original trans. I was thinking that I could rewire a van to use the newer style trans. It wouldn't be that hard, but I haven't had a reason to do so.

In 96 and subsequent years, there's a huge problem of diff pins blowing out and cases were impossible to find. So some really smart guys figured out how to make a kit to retro the 1991-1995 gen2 trannies into the gen3. for your situation, it would be really easy to use a gen 2 trans with just the adapter plate needed for the back mount. Somewhere in my inventory, I have the back plate, but I'm not sure I could readily find it.

finely got it in the garage. on jacks it does shift through all gears but it sounds like the selnoids are just clicking away upshift and downshift. could it just be the selnoids pack?

well, the solenoids are what shifts the transmission. a solenoid is an electrical magnet that when energized opens or closes the hydraulic valves. so if you hear them working and the transmission is shifting, don't you think it would be safe to say that the solenoid pack is doing what it's suppose to?
