A little help with coolant change please...
Hi guys...
I have a 56 plate(2007 year) GV 2.8L XS oil burner with 86K on the clock that I want to change the coolant on ready for the awful winter we've got forcast. I've bought the correct anti-freeze and some de-ionised water to mix.
I've changed coolant on lots of other cars in the past! But was looking for some pointers on how to do the job please. What's the best way to bleed all the air out of the system? On older cars I always got the cab heating control on max to help! I guess it's the same on these?.
I've been told that the cam belt on these VM Motori boat engines have to be changed every 100k or 8 years? Does anyone know if that's correct? I would normal get that done as well as coolant change and water pump but, the main stealer wants £750 just to do the cam belt!!!...
Any guidence on these matter would be very welcomed
Cheers

I do believe there is a small drain **** at bottom of radiator ****.
These motors seem to bleed themselves of air, so keep some coolant water by so you can top up after a few miles. I think there is a little bleeder somewhere though...
My cambelt was done at 86,000mile, but no idea what it cost -- £750 sounds a lot to me. I'd reckon the low hundreds much nearer. I've not read anywhere that it's unusually difficult/lengthy job. I know a guy in Leeds who would prob. charge a lot less than £750 -- he's done a job on mine which was totally satisfactory. These newer Gates belts are said to be good for 150,000mile.

Yer... I've heard that this car is like my old VW and has a drain valve on the rad! The only problem with buying a car used is I've no idea if the key is plastic old or it's metal and won't snap! Without looking at it Tomz! It maybe that I'll take the bottom hose off. It was to be today's job! But weather put pay to that so I'm hoping for good forecast for Thursday...
If it has a bleed valve somewhere then that would be a bonus! 👏😀
I would normally have a go at the timing belt! But it looks so cramped and I'm unsure on these engines never having done one on a chrysler!🚣🚌
I was gob smacked when the stealer wanted £750 for the job! No wonder there is only 1 left in Wales! And most have gone out of trading!👣👋👀😪
If I was still living up North I'd give your fella a ring! But down here in not so sunny Wales it's a bit to far for me 😞
I've seen the Gates belts on Fleabay! Again, I didn't know they were good for 150K... Who makes the Mopar original belts? I can get a full kit with all rollers for £150! Not a bad deal I thought!?... 😋
Does anyone know of a chrysler specialist in Cardiff by any chance?

Cam Belt is a 4 hour job and you are right at £750 for a Chrysler dealer. Chrysler charge about £250 for kit and £500 labour.
However if you go to any other non franchised garage you will like me get it for just under £500.
Motorfactors sell kits for around £170.
Garage charges £225 for kit and £70/hr for labour.
As too coolant refilling squeeze the hoses to the radiator to purge out the air.
To be sure change belt at 70k.

The coolant change is on the cards for Tomz morning! So I guess it's very much like the change I did on VW and squeeze the bottom hose to expel air pockets!
Many thanks mate 👍😎😃

The main problem here is not the parts or the labor, it's the simple fact that £500 isn't worth what it was a short while ago. I'd say it is worth more like £300 say 5 years ago.
Of course we all realize every time the government "prints" money or "invents" money in that process they call "quantitative easing" or "debt monetization" or whatever phrase they think we are being fooled by -- the rest of the currency is debased. Meaning your savings, your salary, your benefits are being stolen from you, and there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it.
Well, let them be aware, they don't fool me, not one little bit, not even when I've just fallen out of bed.
Every "boom" is false and is followed by a slump plus inflation, just like the 1960s boom and the severe slump and credit squeeze which came in 1973 when the arabs realized our pounds and dollars were a partial fake and doubled the price of oil overnight.
Here's a question for you. Who said "the days of boom and bust are over"? I'll give you a clue -- it was said in a scottish accent.
Leedsman.
p.s. This isn't political -- since when was robbery political?

I know what you mean about how money is these days! It's just crazy how we get ripped off! There is a good reason why "Rip off Brit" saying is about!
I think it was a Lib Dem who coined that saying? Not sure 😕
