Default Manual gearbox rumble !

Hi, Newbie here. I have a 2004 diesel grand voyager 2.5 manual 80K miles. My problem is that I have a rumble from the gearbox when stationary (and I assume when travelling) The noise goes away when I press the clutch in. I suspected it may be the clutch thrust bearing,as it sound like an old Cortina I used to have. Any ideas welcome.

does the clutch have to be fully depressed to make the noise go away or just lightly pressed?

Regards
Richard

Hi, clutch is worn, but the noise goes when the clutch is pressed fully home. I'm thinking it may be the main layshaft bearing into the gearbox.
Just woundered if anyone had a similar experience
thanx

Hi, I sold the vehicle in the end. I'm almost sure it was either the layshaft (in put shaft) bearing or excessive clearance in the gear mesh. I had a similar issue with my current vehicle and it was repaired under warranty and it transpires it was backlash between 5th and 6th gear. Bit disappointing as the car only has 20k mls and 1 yr old. the Vauxhall Antara was sorted under warranty,so all's well that end well.
I could best describe the noise as a ticking when at idle.

my 2001 CRD did the same thing. I first noticed it at about 70-80K miles, same thing runmbled then stopped with the clutch pressed in. It wasn't the clutch as that was changed at 100K miles and it was exactly the same. It still drove perfectly well until 170K miles, when eventually something in the gearbox started to whine, when I dropped the oil all bits of bearing case came out.. so I sold it.
