Default Quick engine swap question

Looking for confirmation on my thinking about the 2.5 crd and 2.8crd engines.

If I'd a 2.8 needing an engine, would a 2.5 be able to go straight into it?

And could I use the bottom end of a 2.5 and mate it with the top end of a 2.8?

Cheers,

Rab

The 2.8 has a different EGR system, it includes a throttle valve and the engine has a different stroke. I suspect the cam profiles will be different too

The main problem would be the ECU and fuel delivery parameters

Gone are the days when you could install a BMC 1.5ltr. diesel engine from a BMC van in any of the same-chassis BMC 1.5ltr. petrol engined cars by simply drilling another gearbox mounting only three quarters of an inch behind the original, and burning a bit of chassis away to clear the starter motor! It's all got so complicated now...

Ah well, bubble burst.

Was hoping to use my 2002 car as a donor and fix a 55 plate 2.8.

Having to buy a bottom end would probably make it not worth the expense.

Back to the drawing board.

That's the one I was looking to buy. It's at £640, the guys had a price for a new bottom end at £400.

If my engine (or even block) had done, I'd have had a bid on it. I thought it would have, luckily I posted on here first.

- he'll let it go for scrap and a case of lager
- I would .. .. rather than let the scrappy have it to sell on
- buy it any way - part it - and use the 200% profit to fund your needs

Wouldn't cost much to send it to where I am. Got a quote of £166 to send a 24ft Motorhome from Edinburgh to Dumfries full suspended. Pity I wasn't looking for one.
