I didn't state before, but my original key (the one I am trying to use to active the program mode) does have the panic contacts on the PCB and the contacts to short it on the membrane (I can trigger a panic mode from the remote if I hold down the panic area of the membrane with the case open).

Does everyone think that programming using the remote and the panic button should work on my 2006 GV?

Thanks,
Terry.

In the end I took the car to Hughes in Beaconsfield (The Hughes Group | Hughes Chrysler Jeep Buckinghamshire Dealership | New & Used Cars & Servicing |) to get a key cut (they happened to have a key blank in stock) and get them to code both the key they provided and the Remote that I had already brought from EBay to the car. Total cost (bear in mind I provided the remote) - £121.

(As a note Hughes were great, great service, they got the car slotted in for me on what seemed to be a busy day, and I would recommend them whole heartedly.)

Bottom line was I'd spent so much time trying all the different tricks to code the remote myself (and hadn't even got a key sorted out) that I decided to bite the bullet and get it done properly. We only had one set of keys and it worried me what would happen if we lost that set (or the remote or key failed).

Terry.

Thanks for the update Chargenut, at the end of the day peace of mind is a price worth paying. I should have updated this thread, I now have the 6 button and its membrane but as I already have two working keys and two FOBS I just never got around to re-programming yet another transponder key as a experiment.

Of course you do, but in this case you are largely advertising your warez to UK motorists.

yes, dealer only unless you want to fit an aftermarket remote entry system to lock/unlock the doors but with the loss of the alarm functions

Regards
Richard

Richard i would settle for an aftermarket remote as long as it opens the side doors impressing fellow shoppers in the car park Its such a big car i don't see a boy racer or the local junkie trying to steal it so i will take my chances and not have an alarm
