Default Snow chains

I am looking for some facts about tire chains, I have a Town & country (front wheel drive) with all season tires. I am going north into what I call the north snow country. I make the same trip every year and bring my f-250 4 wheel drive. This year I have too many passengers. Do people use chains with front wheel drive? will it damage the van?

snow chains are allways to be mounted on powered axle.
so, if you have front wheel drive car, you put snow chains on front wheels.
for a RWD, snow chains will be on a rear axle.
AWD, front axle (becouse of steering).

why would SC damage the car?
same thing, front or rear.

but, there are restrictions.
after installing SC, drive for a while, stop, and check all strings and connections.
do not overspeed. keep it slow.
do not use them on a road without snow (this can be expencive). take them off first chance.
No. of passangers does not matter.

if possible, try putting them on the wheel in your garage. for a test.
showel and gloves might come handy.

Get some studded snow tires. Chains are only to be used in really bad snow and ice conditions, and 30 mph is top speed.
