The aux cabin heater is a small diesel fired boiler that heats the engine coolant quickly in cold conditions. It's only fitted to diesel models.

However the aux heater should shut down when the engine gets upto temperature. So you shouldn't hear the aux heater after you shut down unless you do alot of short journeys.

If it is running all the time then you may have a faulty thermostat.

Incidently the heater is a small webasto unit which, when running for the 10 mins it takes for the engine to get up to temp, will burn between 50 - 100ml of diesel. However in real terms the usage is a bit less than this (20%) as the engine gets up to temp faster, thus achieving maximum economy quicker.

Wheres the plug to unplug the heater. It is just wasting fuel and is annoying when puffing smoke into the garage after the car is off. Ive searched for the fuse, but no luck. Didnt want to cut the cable just in case. So if theres a connector that would do the job better

Your motor - your call - but :

- its emptying its burn bowl of of unused fuel
- the unused fuel in this case is 1/16th of an egg-cup
- its critical to burn it off or the unburnt carbons will quickly destroy the webasto
- its not wasting fuel, the longer it takes for the 1/4 ton engine to warm up the lower its fuel consumption

I've no idea where the fuse is, others might be able to help. The consumption of 0.1 / 0.3kG per hour when the Thermo Top is on full whack is minuscule compared to engine warm up time my friend. Put a switch on the cable and the best of luck my friend !
