Default Sway bar needing repeat replacement

We have now replaced the sway bars twice on our 2002 Town and Country. First time the bushings for $140 and now the sway bar itself for a total of $466.
I wonder if there is any recourse for reimbursement. We have never had to replace such items in any of our cars.
Thanks for any information.

Sway bars don't wear out; so unless you got into an accident and bent it... you got robbed.

Not knowing where on the planet Earth you are located, some areas of the planet are known to act rather harshly to rubber components of automobiles. Yes your gen T&C was known for bushings for the sway bar to wear out, but they were NEVER that costly to replace or for the part, WHO has been doing your work and at what labor rate? And who do you want "recourse" from on a 16 year old vehicle?

Yeah I agree with REBEL59, sounds like there's a little skulduggery going on there. Yes the bushings from the factory are prone to wearing out but I have never heard of the rollbar wearing out itself.

Good quality bushes themselves can be found for less than 20 bucks. An adequate mechanic can fit them in less than an hour. Last ones I did took me around 35 mins laying on my back in the street. Though I doubt you will have any recourse, however my advice would be to find an different garage for any future repairs.

Yes and many rubbers wear out quicker than others like the fleebay ones. Stick to Chrysler suppliers.

End links need to be replaced, bushings need to be replaced, but sway bars are heavy duty spring steel that never need to be replaced unless the vehicle has been in a very serious accident.
The only time that they are normally replaced is when someone voluntarily decides to replace one with an even stiffer heavy duty one.

If a shop told you that you needed a new one, they ripped you off.

I bet they are talking about the sway bar links not the bushings. The links are knows for issues and then again cheap parts and or pot hols in the road will kill them.
Than again I dont think the original poster cares this is a 9 year old thread

I had thought the same thing, but over 400 bucks for end links is a bit excessive for something that takes about fifteen minutes to do.

Yeah, the thread is old, but perhaps it will save someone else from getting ripped off.
