Ticking at startup but immediately goes away
Hey guys, I have am looking at a 2005 Town and Country Touring w/ 111,000 miles. I was able to determine the miles are accurate. Here is the issue. When the car starts cold I hear a rapid ticking (not loud) which goes away within a few seconds. If the car is off for a few minutes and I start it no ticking. It had an oil change etc. My neighbor who is an auto mechanic said if a cheep filter is used it can hinder oil flow... which makes sense. Of course it could be something much bigger. Any thoughts? Thanks again. :

All your other posts relate to model year 2000's Dodge and T&C with engine size posted for these two. What motor is in this 2005 Van?
What brand oil filter did you use? Could be a weak lifter or fuel injector noise you could be hearing..A number of possibilities, down to a dying idler or tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt if a 3.8 motor.

Thank you for your information. This engine is a 3.8L and the filter is a purolator. It does sound like a lifter and it is on the right side of the engine if you are standing in front of the motor. The other side where the tension pulley and Idler pulley seem quiet. I was hoping it was the tension or idler. I did find out one thing. A few years ago the prior owner had a severe overheat. I spoke with the mechanic who did the work. He replace hoses, radiator and fans, and a bunch of other stuff. That was in 2017 and he said the car seemed fine. Could be something from that overheat? Not sure???
