Hi guys just fitted my tow bar today and tomorrow i'll be coupling up the electrics. Lights should be a doddle thanks to the great advice on here, but not seen anything in regards to the 12n electrics.


I'm asking if there is a decent 12v supply in the back of the car for the split charge relay? Also a nearby earth point would be nice.


I'm guessing not as everything seems to have its own cable coming from the front. Last few cars I owned had a relay box in the back with a thick 12v supply going into it and spare sockets.

For my 2003 Grand Voyager I used the body earth at the offside rear light. For the power source I ran a wire from fuse at battery, in passenger foot well where there is a grommet, inside sill passenger side, out behind seat to middle of floor, then follow other wires up middle to rear door. For lights I used a Ryder Relay which works well. My info on wire colours is on here somewhere.

Thanks I'm going to do the same with a cable. Couldn't find the grommet in the passenger foot well but it was starting to get dark I'll try again tomorrow. Can you be more specific on where it is? Engine side?.


As I'm running a cable I've decided to put in a 30amp 8awg cable. I'm going to fit an inverter next to the amp in the boot. This cable will then power the inverter as well as the tow bar.


I've got a standard 30a split charge towing relay which has a separate battery charging output (leisure battery is charged from constant live since 1998), so I'll use that output to power the inverter only when there is sufficient battery voltage and set it a bit lower so that the inverter will work while the car is off.


It can also power the lights relay and an accessory socket I'll install into the trim next to a 230v socket in the boot.


The car has a new 75a/h battery on it which annoying makes me not want to replace it for a bigger one!

Yes well here's what wire goes onto what rear lamp. 2003 Grand Voyager CRD.

 

As too wire going through floor in footwell, passenger side, it looks like its the hole for the steering wheel for none UK vehicles. Just pull down carpet from up under glove box and its seen.

 

Thanks. Is it possible to make that image any bigger or type it up? Just wire colours and what they do is I can hardly read it. Thought I'd worked it out but seems I got them a different way around to you - what year is yours?

Found a big grommet on drivers side so cables all in, just need to attach to lights.

 

Don't worry I've done it now. Did got light with a simple relay, wired permanently on but use the negative to the relays negative to act as a 'switch'
