Voyager 2.8 CRD coolant question
Hi
Had to change the oil cooler on my Grand Voyager 2.8 CRD. I got the new oil cooler from nearest Chrysler dealer and also some antifreeze/coolant to replace the coolant I lost.
My handbook (the booklet you get ith the car) says to use "Mopar approved" coolant.
My manual says to use "MS 9769 Ethylene Glycol HOAT" I asked for this at the Chrysler dealer. The guy at the Chrysler parts counter said that they don't do Mopar fluids now they are owned by Fiat, they just stocked 2 different kinds of coolant, pink and a blue one. He checked with the mechanics and they confirmed what his paper list said. He had a cross reference list going from MS 9769 to Paraflu. So I bought 4 litres of "Petronas Paraflu up Ultra Protection" (the pink one).
I got home and changed the oil cooler and replaced the lost coolant.
Then I read the label on the coolant bottle a little more closely. It's "Fiat 9.55523 C.T.R NF 101.M01 ASTM306 Type 1"..............oh and in the middle of a block of text it says it's OAT....not HOAT.
My research indicates that the 2.8 CRD really should have HOAT approved to Mopar MS 9769 standard. Which is what I thought I had bought from the Chrysler dealer.
I have also read that you must not mix HOAT and OAT, which is what I have now done!
I suppose I should now flush the whole system and replace with MS 9769 HOAT, but where do I get it from, if not a Chrysler dealer?
In the morning I'm going to try calling other Chrysler dealers, in the meantime I would appreciate advice.
1. Should I flush the whole system and replace with HOAT?
2. Anyone know what a "genuine" MS 9769 equivalent is?
I appreciate those in the USA don't have this engine but maybe still come across the coolant issue?
Many thanks
