Default Cirrus 98 quit while driving and won't start again

Hi Guys!

This is my first post on the forum.
Anyway for a few years I've had a Chrysler Cirrus (here in Europe it's called a Stratus) 98 2.5L V6 with an automatic transmission and it's been working grate or at least all the problems I've had with it we could fix without any help.

Last week I started up the car and it started great and I drove off and about 100 feet after that it just shut down. It quit on a dime. So I tried to restart it but nothing. It would turn over but wouldn't start like there was no spark or no fuel or something like that.

The battery way full, the alternator was replaced a month ago, the fuel tank was full, the spark plugs were changed 1/2 a year ago. So the only thing I suspected was a fuel pump. But then I noticed that the Check Engine light was not coming on when I turned the key and the fuel economy display would not display and information on fuel economy (like mpg or range). So I suspected the PCM and I disconnected it under the hood just to the right of the fuse box. And no change same reaction by the car it wouldn't start and no check engine light as expected. I connected it back again and hooked it up to a OBD2 reader and all I could read was the OBD2 connector voltage and that was it. So I decided it was probably a busted PCM.
Is my conclusion correct?

Now my question is I found a replacement PCM form a 99 Cirrus that is supposed to be working would a 99 PCM work with an 98 engine? And another thing is will the PCM work at all with my engine or would I have to have it reprogrammed or something?

I'll be really thankful to anyone for enlightening me on this subject.

Thanks for the help and best regards
