Default 2 Tech ?'s on a 01' Town & Country

First off thanks for your time. My wifes 2001 Town & Country has 110k on it. The engine has not really given us any trouble til recently. It has had a medium oil leak around the valve cover/head area for a few years now, but for the most part nothing else on the engine. The last few days the Oil Pressure warning light is on. She said it was beeping also today. She went and had the oil changed since it was near time anyway but the light still comes on and off.
? #1 - What are the chances of a oil pump going out? You very seldom hear of a mechanical oil pump going bad. Are the chances better that it may be the oil pick up tube screen is clooged up more so than the pump going out?

? #2 - A mechanic told me a year ago that the oil leak is from the "Head gasket" and not the valve cover gasket. He wanted a arm and a leg to fix it. I've been around a few blown head gaskets and you know when one goes out. My wifes engine runs good, not any signs of moisture through the tail pipe, engine coolent evaporating or rough running like a head gasket would show. Is there a chance that it is leaking around the head gasket itself? I have just never heard of oil leaking from a head gasket without other major issues.

I am going to work on it this weekend to replace the power steering pump, change plugs, wires etc. I want to fix every thing I can while I have it down including the issues listed above.

Thanks for your time and I am very thankful any help you can give me.

Thanks for your response.
Are you talking about the oil pressure relief valve or the gauge itself? These are the only two related components that I know of.

the electrical switch that is right next to the oil filter that is what measures the oil pressure and tells the engine computer the oil pressure

Looks like that was it. I only ran it a little but the light never came on and the check engine light is also gone. Thanks!
