Question 2002 300M 3 prong plug hooked up to battery?

I noticed a wire with a 3 prong plug hanging under the hood of my 2002 300M this morning, I opened the hood and followed the wire to the battery.. Does anyone know what the plug is for? It looks like a normal 3 prong plug that you would plug into a wall outlet.. I have never seen anything like this befor.. Would love some help on this matter.. it almost looks like it was never pluged into anything... the wire runs along side the neg cable for the battery

I'm guessing a battery warmer or block heater. Are you in a cold climate? Most battery warmers are hard wired into the 12v system. A block heater would have that sort of plug...

A block heater or radiator heater would be the only thing I could think of that would have a household plug. I would trace the wire down until you find the source. If it's a dealer installed heater, I would leave it alone and use it on your coldest nights. Oh, don't plug it in until you know where it goes, but you already knew that...

Find out where it goes first. My only concern(without seeing it) is the location of the plug itself. Most dealer installed heaters are installed with the plug accessible from outside the vehicle, like the grill. I have seen aftermarket oil heaters that are a simple dipstick with a heater within, they just slide into the OEM dipstick tube and heat the engine oil. I don't know if they still make those or not. Any type of engine heater will have a preset temperature, so as long as it's a grounded plug you should be fine.

Default Battery heater

This is what the battery heater looks like on a 2004 Sebring with the drivers side wheel and fender liner off. This car also has the plug end of the cord stored under the hood.
