Default Chrysler Neon bad MPG

Hi Everyone,

I can't seem to get any response from anyone in other sites about my problem. my 96 Neon has low mileage 50,000. It Runs smooth, quiet and plenty of power. The problem is, I replaced the O2 sensor, MAP sensor, Temp Sensor, Air Filter, Spark Plugs and Plug Leads. The computer shows no fault, but I can't get any better than 20mpg on an open flat road.

I suspect that maybe the injectors are leaking or maybe the computer is reading the O2 incorrectly.

Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

Hi, What I have done to check my MPG is I will fill the tank, run it for 120miles without any stops or change of traffic. Then fill it up again. I measure how much I need to fill up then divide it by the miles travelled.
When I am in traffic my Trip Odometer barely makes it 250miles before I need to fill the tank. (The exhaust is always thick with carbon, same as a diesel trucks).

Hope you may know something?

feel free to ask anything Kevin, there are no real expert-enthusiasts in Australia that I can find. My mechanic is dedicated and does what he can, he researches heaps but has same problem as me. The Neon is rare in Australia and genuine parts are extremely expensive. I got a Real bargain on this project and I am a passionate restorer. So what ever you say I will never be offended.

I was running 91, but my owners manual recommend 95, so I switched up to 95. It runs better but no major change in MPG

Do you think I should try another computer to see if it changes? or just get my mechanic to figure it out. (I am guessing the second option, If you were here I would give you the car to see if its something obvious).

I think it may be more than just a simple fix, if all the computer data is ok.

I appreciate the time you have given me.

Thanks again.
