Default Pacifica engine cradle

I have an 04 Pacifica that has had clunking in the front end. At an oil change our mechanic said the engine cradle was cracked. Took it to chrysler dealer who said it was broke, caused by corrosion and the part alone was $3200 not including labor. Also said warranty would not cover it (we have 90,000miles on it). Why would a part like this fail? I would think this would last the life of the car and more without a problem. Any other options (perhaps salvage parts)?

I would have a local fab shop fix the one you have, if it can be welded back together. The labor in this will be significantly cheaper that buying an OEM piece. If it can't be repaired, try an auto recycler, you'll be able to inspect it before you buy it.
