Default 1989 TC by Maserati shifter problem

Hi everyone,

I just bought an 89 TC with the 2.2 Turbo engine and I have a problem, the shifter seems not to be aligned and it looks like that: the shifter goes in park just like it normally would but when I start moving it then it looks like this:
- reverse is between P and R
- neutral is between R and N
- drive is right on N
etc.
Basically every gear except park is in a different place.

Because of that (I think so) the ignition switch does not go all the way to the off position (goes only to the one before the ON one so I think that's ACC, not sure though) when you can take out the key and that way it's impossible to remove the key.

I've looked at the shifter cable at the transmission in the front but I can't see there anything what could be used to adjust the shifter cable if that's the problem.
I think that it could be either the cable or the shifter itself.

My question is: what could be causing my problem and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

I’m having the same issue with my 84 New Yorker. Did you find a solution?
